Every Good Dog Has His Day

Every Good Dog Has His Day © 2006 Bob Mullany

You find you've got to slow things down
Just to make another round
And still you're always losin' ground
The longer that you stay
Every good dog has his day
And yours have slipped away...

Drag yourself out of your bed
Shake the cobwebs from you head
You think somebody somewhere said
- You'd heard somebody say
Every good dog has his day
But yours have slipped away...

Something's just a little queer
As you're lookin in the mirror
Some old guy with a greying beard
Is lookin' for a shave
Every good dog has his day
But yours have slipped away...

Some women pass you on the street
You're lookin for some eyes to meet
A simple smile can be so sweet
That it can make your day.
It simple pleasures just like this
It's sad to know how much you miss
They walk by like you don't exist
And go their merry way
Every good dog has his day
But yours have slipped away...

It's time for you to face the truth
The fortunes of a misspent youth
Chickens coming home to roost
And now they're here to stay
Ev'ry good dog has his day
But yours have slipped away...
