Hole In the Wall

Hole In the Wall

I'd been gambling and drinking and I lived without thinking
about what the next day might bring
Some days I lived like a stray dog in winter
and some days I live like a king
I hope you'll understand that it's nothin' I planned
seems I'm caught in the devil's own thrall
And, you know, I forgot how I first cast my lot
with the men here at Hole in the Wall.

Your home's where my heart is but I'm on the run
That's the price that I pay for the things that I've done
I'll live 'til I die and I'll run 'til I fall
But I can't take you with me to Hole in the Wall.

Girl, I'll never forget how you got so upset
when you asked what I did with my time
And I paused for a while with a painted-on smile,
said "Livin' a hard life of crime"
Then I stood in the rain as you left on that train
it's a moment I'll always recall
That's the first time I cried since my grandmother died
and I came here to Hole in the Wall.

Your home's where my heart is but I'm on the run
That's the price that I pay for the things that I've done
I'll live 'til I die and I'll run 'til I fall
But I can't take you with me to Hole in the Wall.

Being with you'd be better but I wrote you this letter
'cause I really can't see you again
Still I wish I could stay and 'til my dying day
I'll dream about what might have been
If I could change my life I would make you my wife
but my past has become my downfall
Yes, I always will roam and the place I'll call home
is the saddle and the Hole in the Wall.

Your home's where my heart is but I'm on the run
That's the price that I pay for the things that I've done
I'll live 'til I die and I'll run 'til I fall
But I can't take you with me to Hole in the Wall.
