Long Hard Journey

Long Hard Journey © Bob Mullany 12-2-2006

When I was young I knew the answer
Have faith, and faith will pull you through
Then doubt spread through me like a cancer
Can we say anything is true ?
Still, we depend upon each other
And try our best to do what’s right
Taking care of one another
On this long, hard journey through a cold, dark night
On this long, hard journey through a cold, dark night

Now you have come to walk beside me
And you’ve been kind enough to care
You found me lost and sought to guide me
And always kept me in your prayers
Though you could leave should you decide to
You chose to help me find the light
Your faith, it springs from deep inside you
On this long, hard journey through a cold, dark night
On this long, hard journey through a cold, dark night

Bridge:
We seek the truth, but can’t be certain
Faith gives us strength, but finally fails
No one who's gone beyond the curtain
Returns alive to tell the tale
I wish I was among the faithful
And shared their certainty tonight
For such a gift I would be grateful
On this long, hard journey through a cold, dark night
On this long, hard journey through a cold, dark night

At times I’m tired beyond measure
I fear the darkness and the cold
Still I have memories to treasure
I have your love to have and hold
We’ve seen our children grow and flourish
And now their love is shining bright
That’s all I need now to be nourished
On this long, hard journey through a cold, dark night
On this long, hard journey through a cold, dark night

I used to be among the faithful
Somehow I lost my gift of sight
Lord, if you’re listening, I’d be grateful
At the journey’s end if I could see the light
At the journey’s end, Lord, let me see the light (let me see the light, let me see the light, let me see the light)
Lord, I’d be grateful if I could see the light
