Educated

Educated © 10/30/2009 Bob Mullany

I've learned to drink wine, and leave some in the bottle
I've learned to take time, and give it some space
I've learned to accept that some people know better
I've learned when to let you put me in my place

Now you can say I've become educated
Learned to live within limits, and stay in the lines
I've tried my best, but I can't reconcile
The life that I live, and the one in my mind

I never smoke pot, and I never liked whiskey
But sometimes I stay up to see the sun rise
I think of old friends, and the whims of addiction
We never quite get it 'til somebody dies

Now you can say I've become educated
Learned to live within limits, and stay in the lines
I've tried my best, but I can't reconcile
The life that I live, and the one in my mind

I read the paper - it has two dimensions
It comes in colors - the white and the black
While life comes in colors that bleed all together
Once you stop the bleeding, don't ever look back
Don't ever look back, or the monsters will get you
Try to live in the moment, and do what you can
If you need a shoulder to cry on I'll be there
I can't live your life, but I still understand

Now you can say I've become educated
Learned to live within limits, and stay in the lines
I've tried my best, but I can't reconcile
The life that I live, and the one in my mind
