Fading Away

Fading Away    ©    5/12/2016 Bob Mullany for Nancy Mullany

Shadows are slowly extending
Darkness continues descending
We pray for a happy ending
At the end of the day

Fading away ,colors gone grey
Flowers that wilt
Fading away a little each day
And it sharpens the guilt
Fading away

Scenes from  some grainy old movies
Shot from the shadows still sooth me
But details get duller,
and frames are less focused each day

Fading away ,colors gone grey
Flowers that wilt
Fading away a little each day
And it sharpens the guilt
Fading away

Our only wish, by some sheer force of will
We could turn back the clock,
We could make time stand still
We could tell you we love you
And you’ll laugh  and say “Ditto”
We have hope, but life’s still the ultimate riddle
Each day is  a miracle with us in the middle

Fading away  ,colors gone grey
Flowers that wilt
Fading away a little each day
it sharpens the guilt
We’re fading away
