Winter Storm

Winter Storm

G Cm
January, driving snow
Em
Frosted windows, four below
G A
The snow flies as the blizzard grows
Am D D7
The winds groan as the moment slows

C B7
Looking out on empty streets
Em G
Grateful for unnatural heat
C Em
Well stocked shelves, and thanks to you
A D
A steaming pot of winter stew

The wind is carving sculpted drifts
Logs settle and the fire shifts
You rise to put the kettle on
Then cocoa, cake, and Mendelssohn

We’re lost inside the fire’s flames
A mix of colors with no names
Cinders in the fireplace
Reflect upon your pretty face
I whisper in a sleepy voice
“I've never made a better choice”
In our bed we burrow deep
You spoon with me and go to sleep

  1. "At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person.
Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us."
