My Heart's Got a Mind of its Own

My Heart's Got a Mind of its Own © 3/21/2009 Bob Mullany

My heart has its own way of thinking
It won't listen to reason at all
Like a drunkard who just can't stop drinking
Like a bully who loves a good brawl
I have tried to control how I'm feeling
Though it's harder than the strongest of stone
When old love reignites
My head knows it ain't right
But my heart's got a mind of it's own

Like a child that cries out of pity
And tries showing his momma who's boss
Like a country boy lost in the city
Who don't even know what he's lost
My heart can't control how its yearning
Its been burning right down to the bone
It will beg, it will plead
'Cause it knows what it needs
Yeah, my heart's got a mind of its own

I guess that you've heard I'll be going
No, I couldn't stay here very long
The ache in my heart has been growing
And my head knows those feelings are wrong
You've got a good man and beautiful children
Its amazing how fast they have grown
You make a wonderful wife
I wish you a good life
But my heart's got a mind of its own
