The Bust

The Bust © 1975 Bob Mullany

It was Sunday, it was morning, and they came without warning
and busted down my door
They had shotguns, they had pistols, and a great big police dog
was sniffing all over the floor
Chorus:
Thus ended another great life of crime
It's the straight and narrow to stay
If I'd just gone to church like my dear momma taught me
It may not have turned out that way

You'd be proud, mom, I was praying,'cause it goes without saying
I was nervous as a stone freak could be
They were scowling and howling and that big dog was growling
And they were howling and growling at me !

Thus ended another great life of crime
It's the straight and narrow to stay
If I'd just gone to church like my dear momma taught me
It may not have turned out that way

All you cokers and you tokers and controlled substance brokers,
There's a lesson for you in these lines
Go to church every Sunday like your dear momma taught you
The rest of the week have a good time !

Thus ended another great life of crime
It's the straight and narrow to stay
If I'd just gone to church like my dear momma taught me
It may not have turned out that way

Yeah, busted on Sunday, ironic I guess
Because God loves us sinners and I'm still feeling blessed
Those cops weren't so thorough , so when I'm in need
In the middle of my cornfield's some mighty good weed

Thus ended another great life of crime
It's the straight and narrow to stay
I go to church on every Sunday like my dear momma taught me
Then I go out and have a good time !
