Daddy joined the Navy and he went to fight
Then he married momma and they raised us right
Now we got a bit of money and our grass is green
We’re plugged in the grid of the American dream

Feeling pretty righteous ‘cause we helped the poor
With our canned donations at the church house door
But Judgement’s here and God slipped out
It’s the AIDS epidemic that I’m talking about
The Pope says condoms are the devil’s tools
While a couple million people dance the Blind Man’s Blues


The power’s in the people if they see the light
Life can even flourish if they live it right
But the end is nearing and we’ve sealed our fate

I hate to bring you down but it’s my best guess
There’s not a single politician who can fix this mess
They’re all about the power and the money they take
From the back door brokers who are on the make

They say they found a planet that’s a bit like ours
600 light years from our own sweet star
That’s a real long journey on a real fast bus
I wonder if there’s anybody there like us
Messing up the planet ‘cause they just don’t see
With a few billion people and their SUV’s
They ought to be worried by the path they choose
